(May 16, 2009. On the way to McNamara airport on board Michigan flyer) After all the tiring preps and the many bloopers in between, I am finally back on the road. Excited (and exhausted even while still at the jump off point), I set off to yet another unpredictable adventure. I thought I should keep a list of all the amusing and unusual bits of this journey, as there's just too plenty a happy discovery on the road home to let it pass me by.... here are some of the new things I learned at this point:
1) Next time I see a locked car in the parking lot - with the engine and lights running - I will not pass on harsh judgement on the driver. I will just think maybe, there's a lot on their minds, and say a prayer for them.
2) If #1 happens, you call your insurance agent, get the number of the nearest wreckers and they will come and open it for you for $55, which the insurance company will reimburse. (You can also try and learn how they do it, and consider making a career out of it too. Or at the very least, learn how to do it yourself next time, as it is very likely that it'll happen again).
3) Always check receipts. This could save you heaps of money and a lot of trouble.
4) You could actually be bumped a notch up to first class, even prior to check in!
5) If you're going away for quite a bit of time, you can put your car insurance in storage status til you get back. This'll save more than half your usual bill while your away, while keeping the essential coverage on your parked car.
